Parking Issues and Complaints

The White Settlement Police Department may be contacted via the WEST COMM non-emergency telephone number 817-246-4973 to report parking violations that constitute an immediate hazard or nuisance to the public. For emergency situations involving an immediate hazard, please dial 9-1-1.

Examples of potential immediate hazards or nuisance issues may include, but are not limited to:

  • A vehicle stopped or blocking a main lane of residential street or highway, whether occupied, unattended, or disabled.
  • Over-sized or large commercial or recreation vehicle that is blocking a driveway or creating sight distance issues for the motoring public to see around the vehicle to safely operate a motor vehicle on the public roadway.
  • A motor vehicle blocking the entry or exit drive to a business or restaurant.
  • A motor vehicle blocking the private driveway to a residence.
  • A vehicle believed to be stolen.
  • A vehicle leaking fluids on the roadway.
  • A vehicle constituting an obstruction to traffic by being left unattended upon a bridge.
  • A vehicle that appears to have been involved in a crash and is inoperable that is left on the public roadway.
  • A dispute over parking between neighbors that is in-progress and may cause a disturbance or breach of the peace.

For parking issues that may be resolved through a notification to the Police Department, a community member may file a parking complaint on the department's approved form available in the department's lobby or by completing the form online

Examples of parking issues that are not deemed an immediate hazard or emergency situation may include, but are not limited to:

  • Parking violations that do not constitute a traffic hazard to the motoring public.
  • Parking in a place where an official sign prohibits parking (excludes disabled parking violations).
  • Parking on the wrong side of the road where an immediate hazard is not present.
  • Parking on a public street while displaying an expired registration sticker.

The Police Department may use a variety of methods to gain compliance on parking issues. Officers and approved volunteers may issue door hangers to alert a resident of a violation. Warning stickers may also be issued to remind an owner or operator that their vehicle may be subject to impound and towing. Citations may be issued for state law and city ordinance violations related to the regulation of parking and abandoned vehicles. Officers may use discretion on the type of education or enforcement option depending on the severity of the violation, repeated violations, or failure to comply with previous attempts to remedy the situation.

The City Marshal or Fire Marshal have primary authority to enforce laws and ordinances related to the regulation of parking. Police Officers may respond to in-progress hazards to assist with issues related to parking. While Police Officers generally are restricted to authority over public streets, Code Enforcement and the City/Fire Marshal may enforce regulations related to private property.
