The White Settlement Police Department received the coveted “WE HIRE VETS” Employer recognition for the second consecutive year from the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Veterans Commission. To receive this honor, agencies must demonstrate a commitment to hiring military veterans and comply with the minimum hiring requirements of veterans.
The department has veterans working in almost every role of the agency, including line level positions all the way to the Chief of Police position, representing several branches of the military. Some police employees are still actively serving in both a law enforcement role and military reserve status role.
According to statistics at the Veterans Administration, there are over 1.5 million veterans in Texas. In 2024, White Settlement Police Department employees who are military veterans make up 22% of the entire department workforce. In addition, veterans applying for an entry police officer position receive extra scoring points on the written examination if they receive a passing score.
“As a military community and veteran myself, our team remains committed to hiring veterans who have a desire to continue their service to our community in a law enforcement role,” said Chief of Police Christopher Cook. “I am very proud of this continued designation from the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Veterans Commission.”
