WSPD Receives 2024 Community Safety Award

Police News Releases Posted on October 24, 2024

The White Settlement Police Department received the 2024 “Community Safety Award” during the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference in Boston this week. The award recognizes leading agencies across the policing profession who make significant investments in using technology to build stronger and safer communities. This award recognized Chief of Police Christopher Cook and the Police Department for their StarChase pursuit mitigation tool.

In January 2024, the department rolled out new vehicle-mounted GPS launchers to assist officers during high-risk car chases. The department continues to expand the number of vehicles that are included in the program with the White Settlement Crime Control and Prevention District and City Council approving five additional vehicles to add StarChase technology in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

“Our team was honored to receive the 2024 Community Safety Award,” said Chief Cook. “We have been working hard to reduce risks to our officers and community that naturally occur during vehicle pursuits. This new technology has been instrumental in reducing liability, managing risks, and safeguarding lives. On behalf of our patrol officers who go out each shift to make a positive difference, thank you for this recognition.”

Matt Shaffer, Vice President of StarChase said, "Chief Cook's unwavering commitment to public safety is an inspiration and we're honored to share our appreciation of his efforts and those who serve under his leadership."
