[ARCHIVED] Cart services with Frontier Waste Solutions

man standing between a green and blue trash cart in front of City Hall

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. We understand that cart needs can differ from home to home. That’s why we’d like to draw your attention to the Cart Management Form. Currently in its early form, the full Cart Management Form will launch on May 1st and will feature all the options you could need to customize your cart experience. If you’re looking to order extra trash or recycling carts, needing to report lost or damaged carts, or wanting to trade your recycling cart for an extra trash cart (this will increase your monthly garbage fee by $3.50), the Cart Management Form will be the tool for you. You can find it by visiting https://www.wstx.us/1540/Waste-Collection and remember to check back on May 1st when more options become available on the form. Also remember that it can take Frontier Waste Solutions up to 10 business days to deliver extra carts or to pick up carts you’re looking to get rid of. Please note, every household must keep at least one trash cart, as this will be the only method of trash collection available for residential homes beginning on May 1st.

If you or someone you know doesn’t use the internet or would rather make cart changes in person, you’re always welcome to speak to one of our Utility Billing representatives at City Hall. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to noon and 1 pm to 5 pm. You can also reach them by calling (817)246-4971 and selecting option 1.

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. As you prepare to utilize these carts, it’s important to understand some of the rules of cart use so your service runs smoothly.

  • Official carts only: The only carts that can be used for trash and recycling are the official Frontier Waste Solutions carts that you’ll be receiving. We understand that some of you already have carts/trash cans, but those will need to be repurposed and cannot be used for your weekly trash/recycling pickup. Old carts/trash cans are great for storing items and can even be used for creative projects such as becoming planters.
  • Bagged trash, loose recycle: It’s important to remember that the trash and recycling carts have different rules when it comes to bagging the contents inside. Trash must be in bags before being put in your trash cart, but anything you put in your recycling cart must be loose and unbagged.
  • 7 and 7: If you’re struggling to remember when carts need to be placed at the curb and returned to the side of your house just think 7 and 7. Carts can be placed out at 7 pm the night before your service, and should be removed from the curb by 7 am on the day after your service. Another great way to remember your service days is to download the Frontier Waste Solutions app which can be programmed to give you notifications each time your trash needs to be placed out.

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. It’s important to familiarize yourself with the new service route maps as your trash day may be changing. Frontier has divided the city into 5 sections for trash and recycling pick up. Remember, your trash cart and recycling cart are picked up on the same day, making it simple and convenient to utilize both of these services.

To find your new trash day, please consult the graphic below or visit https://www.wstx.us/1540/Waste-Collection. Remember, your trash and recycling carts need to be put out the evening before your service day or early that morning prior to 7 am and should be located in the street with the wheels against your front curbline.

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. A 95 gallon cart can hold six standard size trash bags, but there’s an easy way to maximize your space each week so you can fit everything in your carts. As mentioned, you’ll also have a 65 gallon recycling cart. This cart can hold the equivalent of about four trash bags. That means that if you effectively recycle, your total weekly amount of space is equivalent to ten trash bags. By keeping bulky items such as boxes and cartons out of your trash, it frees up more space for any other trash your household generates.

Another way to maximize the space in your trash cart is to carefully place the trash bags inside. Not all trash bags are the same, and depending on what’s in them, some bags can be awkwardly shaped. Try to arrange the bags in your cart so that they fit optimally and there’s no wasted space. By taking a few moments to consider this step, you can make the most of the space in your trash cart and ensure that your weekly trash fits inside.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. With cart delivery beginning this week and with cart service starting on May 1st, it will be important to know where to keep your carts between service days and where to put them on your service day.

Between your service days, residents should make reasonable efforts to store carts out of public view. This can be done by putting the carts in your garage, behind screening on the property, or in an area where the carts are not visible from the street. At a minimum, containers must be kept behind the front building line of the property, which means the side or back of the house.

On your service day, carts can be placed out no earlier than 7:00 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled collection day and must be in place no later than 7:00 a.m. on the collection day. Your carts need to be placed in a spot where the mechanical arm of the side loading trash truck can successfully pick them up, empty them, and return them. For most residents, the ideal spot for carts is on the street with the cart wheels against your front curb line. Alternatively, if you have a flat yard you can place your carts in the yard right up against the curb line with the wheels facing the house. In rare cases such as having large overhanging trees along your front curb line, you may need to place your carts at the end of your driveway. PLEASE NOTE, carts are not allowed in front of the curb on any major thoroughfare due to safety and traffic concerns. The list of streets that currently qualify as major thoroughfares are Silver Creek Rd, Bomber Rd, Dale Lane, Western Hills Blvd, White Settlement Rd, Clifford, Las Vegas Trail, Cherry Lane, and any highway frontage roads. No matter the positioning, please remember to leave at least 3 feet between each cart and any other objects or obstructions.

If you’re unsure of where to place your carts please email ahall@wstx.us with your address and contraction information and we’ll find a time for someone to visit your property and help determine the best location for cart placement.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. Cart delivery will begin one week from today, on April 12th, and may take up to 10 days to complete. You do not need to be home to receive your carts. Frontier Waste Solutions will leave the carts at your home for you to collect at your convenience. Please remember, these carts are not for immediate use and should be stored until the new contract begins on May 1st.

On your new carts, you’ll see literature from Frontier Waste Solutions that will help you understand more about your new service. Please take the time to read the literature so you’ll be ready to get the most out of cart service once it begins on May 1st. You’ll also find a helpful sticker on top of your recycling cart. This sticker will identify what can and can’t go into the recycling cart, making it simple to get started recycling.

Do not mark on your carts or write your address or name on them. Each cart has a unique identifying serial number/bar code that will be associated with your address. This makes it easy for Frontier to keep track of your carts should they become lost or stolen and eliminates the need to mark on them.

If you’d like to make any changes or additions to your cart preferences (such as ordering extra carts), you can do so by utilizing the form at https://www.wstx.us/FormCenter/General-7/Early-Cart-Management-125. More cart management options will be added to this form once the service begins on May 1st. Please note, adding carts costs extra and it may take up to 10 business days for the new carts to be delivered.

We’re excited for cart delivery to get underway next week. Please stay tuned to the City Facebook page and Website for more information and updates as April 12th approaches.

two trash carts sitting side by side, one is green, one is blue

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new waste collection contract with Frontier Waste Solutions goes into effect on May 1st and will introduce a new cart based pickup system to the city. Each home will receive one 95 gallon trash cart and one 65 gallon recycling cart as part of your base monthly garbage fee of $16.73. These carts will be picked up once per week on the same day, making it convenient to take out your trash and recycling at the same time. Bags of trash outside of the trash cart will not be picked up beginning on May 1st, so it’s important to put all of your bags of trash in your trash cart. Remember, while trash should be bagged, recyclables should always be loose and unbagged inside the recycling cart.

Over the course of April, we’ll be taking an in depth look at carts and how this new service will operate. How to manage the carts you have, when cart delivery will take place, where carts need to be placed, and how best to maximize your space are just some of the topics we’ll be covering. Please continue to look for these informational posts every Monday and Wednesday, and don’t forget to check out Thursday’s Frequently Asked Questions post where we answer as many trash related questions as possible. If you’ve got a question about carts or the new trash service in general, we may have already answered it at https://www.wstx.us/1448/New-Trash-Service-FAQ. If not, please feel free to ask in the comments and we’ll address it as soon as possible.
