We would like to thank everyone who came out for the Gary Lewis dedication ceremony today at the Senior Center. The Center was filled with family, friends, and co-workers present and past as the memorial plaque was unveiled. Each speaker who shared about Gary highlighted his life of dedicated service and the strength of his character.
“We were privileged and blessed to have known him,” Senior Advisory Council President Susan Daves said.
Gary served the City and residents all his life; as a mail carrier, a school bus driver, and at the Senior Center. A little known fact about Gary was that his childhood home actually stood on the property where the Senior Center is now located.
“He was a man of this town and a man of this community,” Community Services Director Rich Tharp said as he spoke of all the ways in which Gary served the people around him.
The memorial plaque will reside directly outside of the Senior Center, a fact that brought comfort to those who continue to miss Gary’s presence.
“When you think of Gary, just think of his big smile,” retired Senior Advisory Council member Billie Wright said. “It's still here and it will always be here.”
Special thanks to Mayor Ronald A. White, White Settlement City Councilmembers Paul Moore and Amber Munoz, City Manager Jeff James, Community Services Director Rich Tharp, Senior Advisory Council President Susan Daves, Senior Advisory Council Vice President Kathy Armstrong, Senior Advisory Councilmembers Manny Alamanza, John Woerly, and Tessie Ellis, retired Senior Advisory Councilmember Billie Wright, former Senior Center Director Vickie Clements and the many Lewis family members who were able to attend the ceremony.
