Code Enforcement Officer

REPORTS TO:  Chief Building Officer                DEPARTMENT:  Public Works

GRADE LEVEL:  7 $13.74 to $17.00  DOE     STATUS:  Regular / Full Time

SUPERVISOR:  No                                           CLASSIFICATION:  TEC4

GENERAL DEFINITION:

Responsible for maintaining compliance for the local codes and ordinances in relation to the areas of weed and grass abatements, signage, waste and salvage, and substandard buildings on commercial and residential property of the City.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:

  • Implement local codes and ordinances related to weed and grass abatements
  • Implement local codes and ordinances related to illegal signage
  • Ability to communicated effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to maintain technical reports and files
  • Read and understand maps regarding parcel location
  • Work independently following verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to remove signage and work in inclement weather
  • Ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers and citizens of the community
  • Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED required.  One plus years of municipal code enforcement experience with certification from Texas Department of Health in code enforcement required.  Valid driver’s license with good record required.  Able to handle multiple tasks.  Some computer knowledge required.  Good attendance a must.  Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above-required knowledge, skills and abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
