The Police Administration Division directs the overall activities of the Police Department to accomplish the mission and goals of the Department, ensuring that Department resources are used in the most efficient and effective manner. The Administration Division works with regional, state and national organizations to enhance the ability of the Police Department to ensure the safety of all persons in the community. The Administration Division is responsible for submitting annual report to the City Council for requesting and managing grant funding, racial profiling, compliance with Texas Best Practices and updating policies and procedures.
The Chief of Police is J.P. Bevering. He has been in law enforcement since 1988 and has been with the White Settlement Police Department since 1992. Chief Bevering has served in every division within the police department. He began as a Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer and was promoted to Sergeant in 1995. As a Sergeant he supervised each patrol shift and served as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2003 and served as the Criminal Investigations Lt., the Patrol Division Lt., and the Support Services Lt. Chief Bevering was sworn in as the Chief of Police on May 11, 2015. Chief Bevering is a graduate of Midwestern State University. He is also a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College and the FBI National Academy 235th session.
The Chief of Police directly supervises, the Assistant Chief of Police, two Lieutenants for the Patrol and Support Services Divisions and the department Administrative Assistant. He is an active member of the regional executive law enforcement leadership groups. The Chief is responsible for coordinating Police Department efforts with other City Departments, with other criminal justice agencies, and with the community and has final responsibility and accountability for and to the members of the Police Department.
